Welcome to the ecology of souls.
“Those of us who work in these strangest of folklores work with conjectures, not certainties, with intuitions, not conclusions. Still, there are particularly gifted writers whom I profoundly trust to guide me. Joshua Cutchin is among them. Here are yet two more big books from him on a global comparison that many of us have made but no one has pursued to the literal ends of the earth, as he has here—that between the world of the dead and the world of the UFO. Please read these books. And please recognize that when we can only speak of these glowing presences as ‘threats’ in the sky, we might as well be trying to shoot down souls. Good luck with that.” — Jeffrey J. Kripal, J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Religion, Associate Dean of the School of Humanities, Rice University
At long last, I am proud to announce the entirety of Ecology of Souls: A New Mythology of Death & the Paranormal is available for purchase from Amazon. Although it is (and was always conceived of as) one book, there are actually four new sales pages dedicated to this project.
To help clarify:
Ecology of Souls Volume One: The first entry in the Ecology of Souls series, dedicated to providing background information on ancient concepts of the soul.
Ecology of Souls Volume Two: The second and final entry in the Ecology of Souls series, primarily focusing on the UFO phenomenon and cryptids. (If you are tempted to only buy the second, I strongly advise against it, as Volume One directly informs the discussions in Volume Two).
Ecology of Souls eBook: This Kindle-exclusive combines both Volumes One and Two of Ecology of Souls.
The Ecology of Souls Companion: Because Ecology of Souls was so long, I opted to include all the reference material—three appendices, the endnotes, and the bibliography—in a separate volume. It is freely available for download here. For people completionists like myself who prefer having everything as a physical object, it is also available for purchase in print form.
To summarize:
The complete book is Volumes One & Two (print) OR the eBook;
There is no need to purchase the companion, unless you prefer physical media.
Here's the official trailer for the series, which I put together to commemorate the occasion. Be on the lookout for future interviews and insights, including an upcoming blog post of what I affectionately call The Soundtrack of 'Souls'—the music I listened to while writing the book, which I think complements the reading process as well.
Welcome to the ecology of souls.
